A wedding cake is one of the most iconic parts of a wedding. Many brides spend hours dreaming of it will look like, going to different tastings, planning the budget for it, etc. For me, this just wasn’t that important. When I found out the average wedding cake costs $4-6 per slice, I was out!
When we were planning out our budget and trying to make cuts, I suggested cutting the wedding cake and I got a lot of strange stares. Apparently, that’s a wedding no no.
One night Jared and I were meeting with our wedding planner and she asked about the cake. I told her we just weren’t really cake people and she said that’s fine, let’s look at some non-traditional wedding cake ideas. Jokingly, Jared said we should do a Nothing Bundt Cake and we instantly loved the idea! It was so cost efficient and such a fun way to switch things up. We had a two tiered layered cake for us to cut and then had bundtinis for all the guests in different flavors.
For Jared’s groom’s cake, we opted for a donut bar. Jared LOVES donuts and this was a unique way to showcase his personality and honestly it was a hit! People were immediately standing in line and the whole bar was licked clean! We had every flavor from Oreo to fruity pebbles to cinnamon roll.
We had a local food truck (Dough Boy) cater the donuts. Since it was a food truck, he parked in the parking lot and made all of the donuts fresh. I think most of the guests were impressed that the donuts were hot and fresh from the oven.
So if you aren’t cake people don’t feel like you have to conform to traditions. The cake is a great way for you and your fiance to show your personality.
